The Concept of Time among Kids

My son asked his mom a couple of years back that who should he call his father and mother when he grows up our age. He inquired to know if he can call his grandpa and grandma as his new father and mother. In his mind, we the current parents will become his older brother and sister or better yet friends. Now that a few years have gone by and I see him and my daughter grow-up I cannot help but smile at his thought and deep down wish some of it did hold true. At least that my and my wife’s age can be fixed to what it is.

You know any kid, including ourselves, growing up cannot wait to grow up but sometime the rush is there to grow up so that they can compete in equal footing with their parents in games and other activities. Just like what we all do with friends, cousins or siblings of close age group. To my son my short message today is

“Take your time to grow up and enjoy it. I will be your father for now and forever. I pray that you become a good person and as you grow up I hope to remain your friend and buddy if you let me. The age gap we have will remain but it will not matter.”
