Free Will and Destiny
How do we make sense of it
The above subject cropped up during one of the many discussions we had with friends recently. It surely gave me something to ponder. They were some who says that there is no such thing as destiny and everything is based on our free will and thoughts. While the other group, defended destiny as choice, which states, everything we do and experience is pre-destined.
Hence, I was not very happy about this situation and wanted to make sense of it all. It didn't take long to realize that there are more laws in place that connects each of us.
I now, look at situations from a perspective of logic and spiritual science. This is not something that i grew up with, meaning i never had such investigative mind apart from falling back on science as means to understand. Then we have the many teachings of religion to read up. What is beyond this, for our basic comprehension, took many more years to understand. It is through constant need of knowledge that drives one to a point of insanity at times, however, the answers are always there. It is revealed only if we are open to it.
I would rather rephrase the question to a correlation between free will and destiny. What are they? what are the connections, is there something that we can benefit from understanding this subject?
I have noticed, if i may, not to generalize, many among us, do not want to accept destiny as it means conformance to laws that we are not aware of. These laws are simply, to put a name to it, the derivatives of Universal Laws that governs us, humans and everything in this universe. It is still logical if one views it from a pragmatic mind. Some are also against the notion of existence of destiny as it is viewed as too religious and it sort of says, do this and do that to conform, otherwise you will be in hell. The subject of heaven and hell, I will share on another posting soon, however, the point being, many are not wanting to conform to a religious notions or to be viewed as not having a choice in outcomes of events in life.
From free willers point of view, it means they are liberated from any shackles that binds them. I choose, I decide and hence i receive. Yes, very true. But, we have to understand, many are not happy. Not happy with the way certain aspects of life turned out, totally different from what one imagined it would be.
My thoughts, there are very important connections between these two items. Humans are given this gift of thought. Only right thoughts for oneself will provide the best possible outcome that benefits the individual. Hence, we exercise this spiritual gift, as free will. We have the power to think. Lacking the power to think, is a devastating waste of time and life for the individual. We have to learn to think for ourselves, and it is not an easy task. Through ones trial and error in life, we somehow, will start to notice a pattern in our life.
Free will is divine. It is given to us. No one can take this away from us. Granted this, it is our choice and decisions that make us. Not the environment. Our environment is an external part of our our lives.
I believe, there is a common denominator in our lives. It is not the amount of money we have (yes, more money allows us more choices, love that thought), not the amount or quantity of material items surrounding us, it is something internal. The common denominator is our feelings. We are guided by this very thing we have inside us, and it is our feelings. We feel good over certain situations, and definately feel bad when we either don’t receive or being put in a situation we are not happy about.
Hence, our feelings are a prominent factor in our life. But we often seemed to sidestep this, even though we are going through the emotions, by continuing the task, work, relationship, whatever without understanding the fact that we are what we are, due to the exercise of free will on our part.
How does this relate to destiny?
From wikipedia “ Destiny or fate is a predetermined course of events. It may be conceived as a predetermined future, whether in general or of an individual. It is a concept based on the belief that there is a fixed natural order to the cosmos. “
True to an extent, as there many events that are pre-destined and we cannot seemed to change them in any way whatsoever. Yet, I’m looking at individual life and not the environment once again.
Lets see what is predestined in our lives, for an example, we just can’t choose what race, religion, family, place and time we are born into. Neither can we decide the day we depart. These two examples are enough to state that we are governed by destiny to a large degree. Meeting certain people in life by chance, without any rationale decision to do so, is pre-destined sometimes.
Now, we have free will and we have this thing called destiny. The common denominator is feelings. As humans, we have a huge range of emotions, but we cannot run away from the fact that all of us seek joy and love. No matter what our background is, what our education level is, the assets we have or we don't, joy and and love is what we seek, knowingly or by default, it is the choice of our soul.
I believe, we have destiny at play for each of our individual lives, here in this space and time, on planet earth, as human beings. We have free will to exercise our freedom and choices. We seek love and happiness.
Though we may have points in life that we cannot change, hence the word, predestined points or events, we have our future that we can change. We cannot redo the past nor live its bygone moments again. This is a fact. What we have now is our experiences, our thoughts and freedom of choice. This is free will in motion.
We only can be happy and receive love that we seek, by using our emotions as a base referral point. The more we gravitate away from our destiny, even though we exercise free will, the more problematic and chaotic our lives will be, filled with confusions, sadness, hatred, poverty etc. The more we exercise our free will to gravitate towards our destiny, we are much relaxed, happier, healthier, more focussed, more confident and most of the time attract the kind of love we vibrate positively to.
This is the only way, i can understand the correlations between free will and destiny, it kinda makes sense now. To have peace of mind and heart, we have to seek within ourselves, what happiness means to us. We cannot live by other’s measure of joy. Doing this will fail us constantly, even though it may provide a sense of gratification for the moment, still, it is a failure and plunges us back to sadness and worry. Only by understanding our own self better everyday, we will then make choices and decisions. Using our mind to think deeply about this, and make rationale decisions, which is an exercise of free will. To gravitate towards our own inner happiness, is the destiny of all human beings.
