Creativity Within
Like many people, I have more thoughts than avenues to express them. I have a twitter account, a tumblr blog, a Facebook, a LinkedIn and even a YouTube channel. None of these get the attention they deserve as I quickly find myself tiring of the tools to create or the feedback mechanisms in place to let me know if I’m doing a good job. I tweet fairly often, but still — Twitter is far more noise than it is signal.
Writing Effortlessly
The text editor of Medium has been hailed and praised as a true innovation. Amongst the things that people like the most about Medium, the text editor ranks near the top. But for me, it’s more than that. While the text editor is really nice and simple, I like that Medium focuses only on writing. There’s no complex tools, no infinite ways to embed content or push traffic to whatever agenda I may have. That’s exactly what I like about it.
Writing for the sake of Writing
It’s a platform to write — and not much else. Ev Williams and company decided to stay away from all of the distraction. I’ve already posted 2 stories (Striking GoLD: Part 1 and What is Money?), and while I appreciate the feedback I’ve gotten, it isn’t a necessary condition for me to write. If what I write is terrible, then that’s great! It’s a chance for me to improve. I can step back and focus on the big picture, writing regularly, instead of the minutiae of metrics and feedback. Those are great to have when you have a goal, but when your goal is just to write, then why bother with them?
Journey
It’s a journey. Maybe my writing style isn’t that great (maybe it is), but by writing more and more frequently, I can guarantee an improvement. I don’t necessarily need a topic or an idea. Just writing to write is it’s own reward.
