My First Book

On September 1st, I walk into the doors of 308 which is my English classroom at St. John’s University and there I meet Professor Gatto. Professor Gatto decides to give her students a writing assignment, and the writing assignment consists of writing a book. Gatto says that we should write about something that we are dying to write about or something that inspires us. So, I decide to write about my life in school. How I struggle to aim high, the people who influence me to succeed in life, loneliness, adversities, faith in God and resilience.
The first stage of this writing assignment is a two page paper of the book. The first two pages are not difficult because I have a good topic. I give my book the name Diggin’ Hard because of all of the adversities that I have been through. I find myself regretting writing Diggin’ Hard because I am getting emotional and angry. Diggin’ Hard will clearly illustrate these emotions as one reads it. I thought of not sharing certain events in my life, but I find it difficult to erase or not include these events.
Diggin’ Hard may create sympathy and/or empathy, but that is not my objective. My objective is to make the reader remove him or herself in a psychological manner and focus on the outcome. One should remain on the target and that is resilience, overcoming depression and loneliness and aiming high.
Throughout Diggin’ Hard I try to describe every person to the best of my ability, and remembering events of when I was younger. I try to obtain a clean “sheet”, not being intense when giving examples with my family. However, I try to make the content as descriptive and informative as possible.
Additionally, I consider consistency and especially humor to balance emotions. Consistency due to the fact that I include not only sub-topics, but I try to use transition words to carry the reader from one event to the other. I use humor to make the reader want to read more.
Furthermore, the sub-topics will be renamed as chapters in the book. In these chapters I expand more on my personal events, and the individuals who influenced me. This book will encourage and inspire you to achieve any goal that you have second thoughts about, or have difficulty reaching. Diggin’ Hard will allow the reader to see eye to eye with the author. It will state uncommon motivators that I use to pull myself up. These motivators can be useful to others to succeed in life. This book supports the American belief that everyone can achieve base on their work ethic. Diggin’ Hard is inspiring; hopefully it will not leave you emotional but empowering. Enjoy and be encouraged.
