Art Fair Philippines 2016: An experience

Last Sunday, I took part of the 2016 Art Fair Philippines at The Link in Makati City. Let me share with you my Art Fair experience :)

The Blanc Gallery is the 10th exhibiting gallery at the Art Fair. There are 29 artists being exhibited in the gallery. They are Buen Abrigo, Mark Arcamo, Allan Balisi, Renz Baluyot, Renato Barja Jr., Francis Bejar, Rene Bituin, Gino Bueza, Buen Calubayan, Ronald Caringal, Jonathan Ching, Louie Cordero, Don Djerassi Dalmacio, Jonas Eslao, Jordin Isip, Lao Lianben, Anton Mallari, Leonardo Onia Jr., J.Pacena II, Richard Quebral, Julius Redillas, Arturo Sanchez Jr, Isidro Santos, Hamilton Sulit, Mimi Tecson, Kadin Tiu, Wesley Valenzuela, The Weather Bureau and Jared Yokte. Most of the materials used by the artists were acrylic on canvas, oil on canvas, acrylic and mixed media on paper. All in all, there were 110 artworks being exhibited in the Blanc Gallery but when I visited the gallery, there were 29 artworks on display. I believe that the collective message being conveyed by the exhibition is that there are many more creative and amazing things that can be done in the normal things around us. We must unleash the creative side in us in order to see the beauty of life and make it extraordinary and exceptional such as the artworks in the gallery.

Pamela Yan Santos’ In Search of Meaning captured my attention because of its unique form. Most of the artworks in the Fair were paintings that vary from sizes but this one is different. We all tried to take photos of ourselves at the picture perfect background! It was something phenomenal because of its difference among the others. I was ecstatic when I was standing there because I felt like I am a child again that’s playing with her friends.

The artworks of Raffy Napay also catched my attention because of its size, color and form. His works are phenomenal because of its unfamiliar form. Each piece has another artwork at its rear. I never really thought that there’s something special about his artworks until I went to the other side of the exhibition. I was amazed by what I saw! It’s very dark and I was fascinated by the flashy colors of his artworks.

To sum it up, my Art Fair 2016 Experience was a blast! I learned a lot of things because of this event. It was nice to see that a lot of people participated in the fair. Although the vibe of the event was not that festive, it was still an unforgettable experience for me. I never really had an interest with these kinds of things. But now, I am looking forward to my next Art Fair PH experience!
