‘China’s fattest man’ undergoes weight-loss surgery, hopes to become a personal trainer

Once weighing in at 334 kilograms, he plans to soon be slimmed down to less than 150 kg

Nineteen-year-old Wang Haonan, weighing around 334 kilograms, may hold the title of “China’s fattest man,” but hopefully, not for long.

Wang, from the city of Jinan in Shandong province, decided to lose quite a lot of weight via surgery. However, due to his size, the operation was not a simple procedure. “Wang currently has a body mass index (BMI) of 96, making him the heaviest man with the highest BMI to ever undergo weight-reduction surgery in the country’s history,” the Global Times quotes his doctor as saying.

In order to prepare for the procedure, Wang managed to shed 24 kilograms in a month thanks to diuretic drugs, a sleep apnea machine, and a healthy diet. He also decided to quit smoking to help reduce the strain on his heart and lungs.
