This was very touching.
I don’t work in tech but I am a social worker who works in the healthcare field in Palo Alto, CA. Super white and Asian. My department of over 200 employees only has 2 black social worker (and that 2 includes myself).
After these tragedies no one said anything at work. No one acknowledged that anything had changed. I was in such a bad mood during that week and even this week after I’ve had days off, I still catch myself having a frown on my face and walking around with that “I don’t want to be bothered” attitude. I thought maybe I’m just tired but I think it’s because of the climate these days and the lack of recognition of Black Death.
And I work with social workers. Even though they’re white you’d think they’d be more compassionate. I’m glad you’re boss said something. That’s a start.
