Hacktoberfest Recap

Hacktoberfest is officially over and I completed the 4 PR challenge (Iโ€™m getting a t-shirt yay!) ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

I submitted five pull requests this month:

Pull requests 1 and 2 were simple text changes. Pull requests 3 and 4 were angular related. It was interesting working on this project, because I learned more about using the angular framework from studying the code. I also found bugs from experimenting with the demo and tried fixing them. The final pull request was using JavaScript and the electron framework. This was a new experience for me and was more challenging than the others, with all the issues that I faced while trying to find a solution. Overall I really enjoyed working on these issues, because I think the challenges faced helped me grow as a developer.

I have to say this was a fun and challenging experience. I think the interesting thing about this challenge was that I got to see the growth of my confidence after every PR submitted. Contributing to another personโ€™s project was nerve wracking at first, but after working on issues it became a fun experience. Throughout the month, I got to experiment with different environments and technology. This also includes issues that I explored, but decided not to move forward with (to name a few repos, delaford, scout, habitica). From these projects, I experimented with docker, vue, python, mongodb and mongo shell. This is a major win!

One of my goals was to work with the Python language. Even though I didnโ€™t create a pr for a Python related issue, I still learned how to code in python and learned about using different modules from attempting to solve issues in scout and LudumDare15 repo. As for my other goal of working in bigger repos, this still stands.

In the future I look forward to participating in Hacktoberfest again and plan on continuing contributing to open source projects ๐Ÿ˜„.

Until next time ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿผ
