9 Things To Invest In Yourself
If you’re going to bet on anyone, bet on you.
Start investing in yourself. Because you my friend, are worth it. It will be the best decision you ever make. It will result in the biggest payoff you could hope to receive. There is no such thing as spending too much time, or too much effort, when it comes to you — you deserve an abundance, and then some.
In order to become a loving, successful and happy person, here are the nine things I believe you must invest in:
Learn self-love & respect
If you don’t love and respect you, how do you expect anyone else to? Love starts from within. It is by no means easy, and is one of the hardest and most time consuming lessons I ever learnt. But without this, nothing else in your life will be as incredible and fulfilling as it’s meant to be. Spend the time, do the hard work, be patient with yourself, and one day you will look in the mirror, and find yourself in a state of adoration with the person staring back at you.
Find a circle of good people
Surround yourself with people who challenge you, people who inspire you, people who will always believe you can be better than yesterday. People who will champion you without a trace of jealousy or resentment, because they genuinely, whole-heartedly, wish you every success. People you can count on to be there for you, rain or shine, anytime. Anyone who offers you less than this is not worth your precious time. Never forget that you are the product of the five people you spend the most time with.
Develop a positive mental attitude
There’s a reason they say always look on the bright side of life. Nothing positive will ever come from thinking negatively, whether it be about yourself or about others. Positive, upbeat, cheery people attract just that into their lives. The energy you give out will always come back to you in ways you least expect. And if you believe things can only get better, I promise you, they will. Life will always be what you decide to make of it.
Most people don’t, and there’s no such thing as reading too much. Stop numbing your mind with the endless drone of the TV, and start nourishing it with goodness. Learn about your world, your idols, what excites you, what you can’t get enough of. There’s so much awesome content out there at your fingertips, waiting for you to seek it out and devour it. Don’t be one of those people who cease learning as soon as a teacher is no longer making you. Continue to learn, because that is how you will grow.
Start a journal
It doesn’t matter in the slightest if you don’t consider yourself a writer. The mere act of putting your thoughts and feelings onto paper will help you unconsciously begin to understand and make sense of them. It’s cathartic, and it’s freeing. Let all your stress and emotional baggage GO — it does not belong inside you. Try this for 5 minutes each day for a week, and see how you feel.
Find a mentor
There’s nothing wrong in asking for help when you need it. No shame in taking it. And there’s certainly nothing but growth and gain to be had from finding someone who helps you to be the best possible version of yourself. Sometimes we all need a little push in the right direction, a little pep talk when things don’t seem to be going our way, a little reminder that all the tools we need to succeed can be found within us. Find your mentor — the person who will continue to be your very own cheerleader, when you find you find yourself on the bench injured.
Practice mind & body wellness
Do things that are good for your mind, body, and soul. Treat all three well, because they are the only ones you will get. Practice mindfulness, move your body every chance you get, fuel it with pure & clean energy, rest sufficiently, and give your brain regular work outs. You will find everything you do much easier when you have a healthy body and mind. Ten years from now, you’ll thank yourself for starting now.
Believe in yourself
Like I said earlier, if you need someone to help you with this, don’t be afraid to reach out. The thing about success and good fortune is that it will always favour those who believe it is within their reach. When all is said and done, all of us here on earth are just people. We are made up of 65% water, and we are 99.9% identical. Some are more fortunate than others, yes; but no one is without the power to make every single one of their dreams a beautiful reality. Tell yourself this every day.
Put in the time
Success will not happen overnight, and those wiser among us know this. If you invest enough time in your passions, the things you love, what you believe you were put on this earth to do — your future self — there is no reason why you will not wake up one morning and realise that everything you wished for along the way came true. It is all possible.
Invest in yourself, because you, are so worth it.
