Bernie Bit the Cronies, and They Bit Back

Dear Gary,

In this article, you mention that you are asked on a daily basis about being a spoiler. This accusation gives you the opportunity to bring up the issue of the harm that vote-for-only-one rule, plurality voting, does to voters and to our whole electoral system, yet I have never heard you bring up this issue.

Your exclusion from the debates and the difficulty of getting the 15% threshold in polls are ultimately caused by the rule that forces voters to pick only one candidate. You have very good reason to briefly explain to reporters and voters the relationship between how we vote and this debate access barrier.

Consequently, whenever asked about being a spoiler, about wasted votes or ballot and debate access barriers, I would hope you would advocate the implementation of a better voting method like approval voting, for example.

I believe more and more voters are becoming receptive to this simple change to our voting system, and I believe the long term success of third parties depends on candidates giving public attention to this issue. Changing to a better method would massively improve our elections. I very much hope that you would take the time to emphasize the importance of this issue to voters when the topic is breached.
