Have you ever wondered how many foreign-born residents live in the United States? This map shows the foreign-born population in the United States by each state in the year 2021.
Out of the entire U.S. population, 13.6 percent are foreign-born residents. The states with the highest percentage of foreign-born residents are California, New Jersey, and New York. The states with the lowest percentage of foreign-born residents are West Virginia, Mississippi, and Montana.
One thing I noticed about this map is that most states with the highest populations in the U.S. such as California, New York, and Florida have the highest percentages of foreign-born residents. The states having the largest populations may play a part in them having the highest foreign-born residence percentages, but I suspect there are other factors as well.
Another thing I noticed about this map is that the U.S. states with the highest percentages of foreign-born residents are at the borders of the east or west coast of the United States. Even though this is a pattern, these states may not have the highest percentages for the same reasons.
California is considered the land of opportunity for many, so many immigrants move to California in search of a better life. Florida has a lot of immigrants because of its proximity to South America and the Caribbean Islands. New York is also considered the land of opportunity for immigrants.
