As an ex-bridge burner, I can safely report that it’s entirely worth it to put down roots and fight for continuity of relationships in your life. The benefits are enormous. In fact there’s a bunch of research to suggest that close, warm relationships are the greatest single predictor of a person’s happiness, especially as we grow older. Now, I not only don’t burn bridges, I pro-actively lobby rolling stones to gather some moss. With technological and cultural change being in high gear, it’s an enormous comfort.
