Diversity with Social Psychology.
This week we continued with the topic of Diversity. This led to an interesting topic of how people of different cultures view things differently. We had an activity dealing with social psychology. The professor drew a picture of a road leading to the horizon with alien cats lining the road. We were asked the question if the cats are going towards you or away. Western individuals would say come towards because Westerns are more individualized. They view themselves as the center of action. Whereas Eastern individuals would say that the cats are moving away from them. Easterners view themselves as spectators to events- not the center. There was a West and East cultural differences with balloons, too (if the balloon is floating away because of the wind or the helium inside).
