While I am certainly not siding with MEternity leave, the difference, I believe even if it’s shitty and not very pro-woman is that people choose to have children, versus they don’t choose to get ill themselves/have ailing parents. Maybe it’s changing, but in every relationship I see, it’s the mom who stays home/leaves early if there is something going on with their child so if you work in a female dominated field, you are likely going to experience this resentment more often as the child-free slack picker upper. But of course, having children is a choice most people make eventually and so it’s kind of wasted energy and sour grapes to make a big fuss about it.
