Healthy minds, Healthy society

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including:
• Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry
• Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse
• Family history of mental health problems
Mental health problems are common and people with mental health problems can get better and many recover completely.
Our Plans, Strategies, and Stories,
We will arrange workshops in January under the banner of our society named “Shaoor.” There will be only one workshop in a month. We’ve targeted the students of the University of Punjab and we will achieve our goal by conducting workshops and seminars.

Tasks are already divided. Each group member has been allotted the duty that he/she will perform during the workshop.

In the last 15 Days;
We arranged meetings with group fellows on daily basis to discuss the strategy. We arranged meetings with the psychologist at Rahnuma and discussed our plan with him and got some valuable suggestions. We have collected funds for the workshop by going door to door in Professors’ colony and VC ground, PU. We have collected Rs.10,000 for this purpose.
We then bought a sim card and generated a thank you text to all the donors and sent an invitation to join us in the workshop and seminars. We are updating our followers, donors, and students about the plans regarding the first workshop. We have also ordered a flex for the workshop.
We have created a Facebook page named as “Shaoor.” We are also working on the Instagram page and trying to create an official website of our society. We have also gathered volunteers for help who will work with us for this social cause.
We are trying to make a video (play) which will represent our topic of mental health and illness. It will focus on the basic conditions of the person facing disorders, solutions and a glimpse of positive attitudes. :D

Fundraising was the biggest challenge that we faced. No one was believing us. We heard unethical words from a lot of people but we didn’t lose hope and went extra mile for fundraising. We spent 8, 8 hours at university (without eating breakfast and lunch) developing strategies on how to convince people, how to communicate with them and how to fight the failure, just for the sake of fundraising and our mission.
Then, we tried to connect with a psychologist. It was also a challenge. We met 3 psychologists, represented the proposal and asked them for help but all in vain. Due to Wajeeha’s effort, a psychologist at Rahnuma accepted our invitation and gave us his precious time.
One more challenge we faced was the “name” of our society. We brainstormed for about 1 week (hahaha) and then decided “Shaoor” to be the name of our society.
 We are going to arrange our first workshop at the Department of Gender Studies, PU. So, the permission was required for this purpose. We convinced the administration team and head of Gender Studies Department through our passion, gratitude, and persistence

Overall, we simply followed the four steps for this mega project;
• Amal
• Just start
• Eck or eck giara
• Sabre Jameel
Now in the upcoming weeks, we are going to visit the Mental Hospital at Jail Road and a fountain house, Lahore. We will meet psychiatrists also. We will arrange pamphlets containing our message, vision, and mission. This will also help us in building a strong and huge audience for workshops and seminars. We will work on designing a feedback form and hopefully, our website will also be launched.
