On Sunday 12 February 2017, I was privileged to be among some 300 plus diverse youth leaders invited from across the Island by the Mayor of Montreal, Mr. Denis Coderre.
I had been invited on behalf of the International Rwanda Youth for Development — IRYD, an organization which connects Rwandan youth in the diaspora as well as friends of Rwanda to be involved directly in the socio-economic transformation of their countries.
At the same time, I represented the Montreal Hub of Global Shapers of the World Economic Forum, a youth outfit committed to making positive contributions in the world.
This high energy event was hosted as part of the 375th anniversary of City of Montreal under the theme of “Youth in the Heart of the Development of the Metropolis.” Inspiring speeches were delivered by Mohamed Hage of Lufa Farms, Le Devoir’s Cathy Wong and Téo Taxi’s Alexandre Taillefer.
The speakers challenged the youth to continue making the city a better place. The Mayor insisted on the City’s diversity and that he is committed to “building bridges” and not walls.
