When Ammar Alhelal first relocated to the states from Saudi Arabia, his biggest struggle was finding affordable, nutritious food. He was surprised to see so many refined sugars and fake ingredients lining the shelves of the local grocery, and felt inspired to solve the problem.

After researching different foods, Ammar settled on dates, which are nutrient dense, vitamin packed, natural, organic, and often forgotten in grocery stores.

Dream of starting your own profitable business? We caught up with Adrien Harrison, a Shapr Connectors Club member who makes a living as a digital nomad entrepreneur, and asked his tips for budding entrepreneurs on Shapr!

First off, let’s start by defining what an “online business” is. You’ve probably heard the term “online business” used in a few different ways. You may have encountered eCommerce, consulting, or online course businesses.

  • eCommerce businesses sell physical products on their website and ship them to customers. eCommerce businesses trade products for money.
  • Consulting businesses can offer an array of services for which clients pay for an expert’s opinion on solving a certain problem and sometimes to implement their advice in a customized way. …

Christian Nilsson was standing in a room filled with top actors, filmmakers and investors. He’d been invited to a film premiere, and was eager to meet the people who could help with his dream of directing his first feature film. While he recognized a few faces, he had no idea who to approach, and realized it would be impossible to strike up a conversation with everyone in the room. It was at this premiere that Christian realized he needed a better way to network in the film industry.

Christian is far from a newbie in the entertainment business. He has held senior positions at top media brands including BuzzFeed, Esquire and The Huffington Post. His 2017 short “Fight To Be The Oldest Bar In NYC” won an Emmy for Best Historical Segment. While Christian has an amazing digital network, he didn’t know many people who could help him actualize a feature film idea. …

While working at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, I consulted with focused students who were directed, committed and on a path. So it was a memorable day when a student, Josh Elman, walked into the Management of Technology Center and boldly announced that he was leaving the program that so many students had fought to be admitted to in order to pursue an opportunity with a team building a promising start-up.

That small local start-up turned out to be LinkedIn, a company that is now one of the major social networking sites, recently reporting 467 million members and its $26 billion valuation in June 2016 when it was acquired by Microsoft. …

When Greg Larkin left his innovation role at Bloomberg, he missed his startup roots. He had spent a few years in corporate life and was eager to work with smaller teams and undiscovered projects. Greg says his first step was to start meeting people and discovering what opportunities were available. “I just needed to meet people and explore ideas” says Greg.

Using his existing network, Greg was able to land a contract with Google as well as projects with a few other corporate clients.
