In 1991 one of the most ambitious hotel real estate and engineering projects in Israel to date was completed in Zichron Ya’akov. The hotel, built on the west side of the city, had 13 floors of vacation condos sprawling down the mountain and overlooking the ocean. The complicated engineering and architecture involved in building on the mountainside are what made this such an ambitious project. The timing of the construction wasn’t perfect either. Israel was in a post gulf war economy, and tourism was at an all-time low. In a Hollywood-esque publicity stunt, the hotel owners placed big red letters…
