Here’s what worked for me after too many UTIs:

  1. Drink two 12-oz. glasses of water immediately after having sexual intercourse, then a glass every 90 minutes for the next few hours. Drinking 100% cranberry juice helps, too. If the sex happens at night, drink two glasses of water and keep a water bottle next to the bed so you can drink (and pee) often!
  2. Other than that, once I stopped regularly eating bread and other foods that contain yeast, I no longer get UTIs, even in extreme situations (like when I did an 8-hour Panorama Trail hike in Yosemite in 105-degree heat with only 40 oz. of water, half a veggie wrap, and some trail mix, but that’s a tale for another time).
