Brazen violation of norms by Cement firms… illegible printing of statutory declarations on sacks inviting disasters to happen

Are cement companies playing with the lives of public? It appears so.

In brazen violation of norms, the companies are printing the statutory warning — the ‘Best Before Date’ — in such a way on the bags/sacks that they can’t be read properly and are illegible. This is a threat to public safety and an open invitation to disaster.

You go to shops and will find the same most of the cement sacks. The troublesome truth is that most of the consumers are not aware of this fact and they go by the words of the retailer. This calls for a quick reality check as quintals of cement are being sold every day in the country.

According to the norms of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), every sack of cement should contain printing of words — ‘Best Before Date’ in black letters. Moreover, the sacks should also have a statutory warning that ‘cement to be tested before use if more than 3 months old from date of packing’, says the BIS norms that were revised in August 2016.
