This is fascinating and discouraging. And I’m so glad to know of Donors Choose! I wonder if there’s an effective way we in the publishing industry can donate books to teachers/classroom? My office always has extra copies of things sitting around that we donate to Housingworks, but I’d love to know how to direct the kids/YA lit to classrooms in need.
