A recent poll showed that only 1/3 of Democratic women under the age of 50 support Hillary. So the narrative that it’s only millennial women who are opposed to her is false. It’s also Gen X women as well.
I don’t dispute that the standards by which she has been judged often at times seem unfair.
True feminism is not about putting women first. It’s about women being afforded the same opportunities as men and judged by the same standards. It’s about receiving the same compensation as men.
Feminism has not ever been about choosing a woman before choosing a man just because, well the person is a woman. That’s flawed reasoning and, if anything, will hurt the progress we’ve made rather than help it.
That the idea of her being a woman and that people are opposed to her being the nominee due to misogyny or a lack of understanding of what poor Hillary has gone through to get to where she is is a false narrative.
The truth is: many people, women included, do not believe she is the best candidate given the available options. Her history is riddled with really bad judgment calls. Even the way she is handling this campaign and her recent proclamation of “disqualify and defeat,” just adds to this.
Hillary doesn’t deserve the Presidency because she is a woman. That is the narrative that has to change.
