‘Yeh bada jaanwar hai. Yeh chhote pinjre mein nahi samayega.’

Be careful what you wish for, they say, for it might just come true. Janardhan wished for pain in his life that would awaken real music. And when Jordan found that pain, he could not handle it. It consumed him.

Jordan is a wild beast that is born inside Janardhan, the seeds of which are lain at his separation with Heer. Janardhan’s metamorphosis into Jordan begins the moment he returns from Heer’s wedding. And so does his self-destruction.

He is thrown out of his family, lives in a dargah, and fights with people who could make his career. And as he gradually begins to obtain the fame he had chased all this while, it begins to suffocate him. He gets oblivious to a horde of fans screaming his name and is unable to discern the reason for his unhappiness.

Janardhan yearns for his life before fame and money and before Heer, because he knows that once the Jordan inside him grows completely, he will consume, tear apart and demolish Janardhan.

“Mujhe ye sab kuch nahi chahiye. Mujhe nahi banna bada. Mere dil nahi tootna chahiye Khatana Bhai. Mere dil nahi tootna chahiye”

Jordan is always high because his love and his music are his intoxications. He does not need an external drug. The one time he tries alcohol in the limousine, he ends up puking on the red carpet. But during his transformative phase, when he is not completely Jordan yet and when he still cares about what the world might think, he sprinkles some alcohol on himself before stepping onto the dance floor and entering a trance. Because if the normal people found out he was in an inebriated state without any intake of harmful substances, they would fear him.

Jordan’s music is like a chameleon. It takes the form of his surroundings. When living in a dargah, he sings a qawwali. When in Prague, he sings a gypsy Czech ballad.

Jordan is also a vagabond. No person or city can tie him down, except for Heer. And their love is so intense that separation takes an actual physical toll on them. But when they are together, she starts getting miraculously healed and he is no longer a wild beast.

Jordan and Heer’s love is not meant for this world, but for the field beyond right and wrong
