Being a bad manager is like having a slow race, where you can choose your own route, but must move at a minimum speed. The “best” path is infinite, even on a finite 2D surface.

Likewise, bad management is any of a large number of bad decisions, with a small number of good decisions possible. Chance alone, like a random walk, takes you farther from your goal over time.
