The #blacklivesmatter anthem you probably haven’t heard

Jesse Johnson, American bad-ass.

When Prince was king, he had a guitarist named Jesse Johnson. The story goes that Prince was pretty scared of Johnson’s talents, and he should have been. Jesse plays a mean guitar. He installed him lead guitarist for The Time and you can see him in “Purple Rain” too.

Of course, no one’s ever really heard of Jesse Johnson, except us 70’s and 80’s vinyl kids.

When I started supporting and marching in New York with the #blacklivesmatter movement, I was shocked to find that this anthem was not all that familiar.

It got a lot of play in our day, and maybe its time for it to have a second coming.

Enjoy Jesse Johnson’s “Black In America” from his 1986 record “Shockadelica.”

And remember, Black Lives Matter.

Peace to you.
