Shawn Johnson — Portfolio

Shawn Johnson, a junior Communications Major with a Minor in Journalism & Sports at Morehouse College. I was born and raised in Evanston, Illinois, a northern Chicago suburb located along the lakeshore of Lake Michigan. Growing up in Evanston, I quickly developed a passion for sports and community service while building friendships and relationships along the years. I continued to play Football at Evanston Township High School which I leveraged my athleticism and earned a spot on the Morehouse College Football Team. I currently play Outside Linebacker & Safety for the Maroon Tigers.

Through other involvements on campus, I’m also apart of the Corrella & Bertram F. Bonner Scholars Program at the college. The Bonner Scholars program provides students with a scholarship towards their education in exchange for active service by students during the school year. Morehouse College is 1 of 2 HBCUs with a Bonner Scholars program. Scholars provide service to the surrounding Atlanta neighborhoods & communities throughout the city. Uniquely, I utilize my roles as a Bonner Scholar, Student-Athlete, and President of the Morehouse Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to do community service and engagement. I’m extremely grateful to be a student-athlete and to use my platform in a positive light.

Each NCAA Collegiate Institution has their own Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. SAAC’s mission is to complete service and enhance the student-athlete experience at Morehouse. As a non-traditional Bonner Scholar, I spend a good chunk of my time balancing academics, athletics and community service. Being involved with Morehouse SAAC shows the community that Morehouse Student-Athletes are well-rounded individuals with a passion for lending a hand.

Produce Food Drive @ Booker T. Washington hosted by Morehouse SAAC & Core2Globe Organization.

I have a passion for the intersection between Sports & Business. I’m interested in working in Marketing, Public Relations, Community Engagement or Professional Development with athletes. Working in the Front Office for a professional sports league or organization is a dream. I strive to show the world that athletes are more than athletes.
