I think certain genres of photography are more prone to gear obsession than others.

Amen! You can’t take photos underwater without waterproof gear or aerial photos without something that flies but none of that matters if you don’t get off your ass and actually use your gear.

I love collecting gear and studying the cutting edge of what new tech is enabling us to do or finding new ways of using old gear. It is just straight up fun. The main purpose of my little monologue here is to remind people that we often get too lost in the weeds. I don’t think there is enough writing out there about the experience of photography. The purpose. We have millions of articles comparing the ISO performance of such and such camera vs another but only a handful of discussions ever happening about why we are even taking photos.

Those types of discussions are the deeper and more meaningful ones to me.
