Maybe if you would explain exactly how and when the private keys are lost forever people would not…

The keys won’t change. They can just backup their state of the key pair right before the fork and have access to both, then execute any transaction on their “unsupported” fork as they wish. What I’d like to see is someone monitoring their addresses to see what they do (if we know their public btc addresses)
