Thanks for the response! Here I mean virtue as being in accordance with oneself so to answer you question on who determines it, nature determines it and therefore the individual. In this respect I actually don’t think virtue has a universal aim — it’s expression could look like one thing for me and something else for you because our values may be different. But the practice of it is the same for everyone, which is to base our actions on our values and not the other way around.

On your second point, since we are, by nature, social creatures our perception will always be influenced by society and so to some degree we will always be reactionary to it, whether consciously or subconsciously. But the point is that there’s a huge difference between being on auto pilot and maintaining a critical eye.
