Why The World Needs Procrastinators
Procrastination has fallen on hard times.
It seems that everywhere you look, there are articles and posts about how to stop procrastinating. Do it today. Don’t put it off. Get things done. Don’t procrastinate! All of those articles, of course, were posted on-time.
There is certainly a lot of value in those statements. As a procrastinator, I have to work hard to stay focused, plan ahead, and not let things slip. And most of those articles I find helpful.
But while I agree with much of what is said, I just think that people tend to overlook the hidden skills that procrastinators bring to the table.
Make friends with us
I’d like to suggest that everyone should make friends with a procrastinator. Don’t do it on Facebook, because it will take weeks for them to accept your friend request. And not email either… same issue.
Nope, actually hunt one down if you can find them, take them to coffee, and begin a real relationship.
Why, do you ask?
Because you need us. You may not want to admit it, but you do.
Oh, yes, normally things work out great in your planned-out world where you do things ahead of time and never end up in a bind.
But then… every once in a while there is that time. That time where you find yourself trying to get a task finished at the eleventh hour because of a circumstance, no doubt, totally out of your control.
That, my friend, is when you need… us. The procrastinators.
You need us
Why?
Because we’ve been training for these moments our whole lives. This is what we were born to do. This is where we thrive.
We’ve logged hundreds of all-nighters, turned in papers at the last minute, waited until the final day (or after) to RSVP for an event. Many of us even delayed being born until after our due date just to start practicing.
We’re good at this. Not so good at details and planning ahead. But awesome in the eleventh hour.
You may be sweating. You may be stressed. But not us.
This is our natural habitat. Like asking Michael Jordan to take the last shot in a basketball game. Or relying on Derek Jeter to get that clutch hit in baseball.
Trust Us
Trust us. We’re professionals when it comes to the last minute. We know what to do, because we’ve done it so many times. So give us a shot before you give up all hope.
No doubt you’ve been there for us many times in the past and now it’s time for us to return the favor.
We’re here to help.
And one day, in the late hours of the night, when you least expect it… you just might need us.
And we’ll be there. Just… send us a reminder text in case we forgot.
What about you? Do you have procrastination skills?
