Managing the Ghosts of Lahore

How my team in Pakistan is dealing with terrorist violence

I help manage a 16 person outsourced team based in Pakistan for Vungle. They are decent people that add a huge amount of value to the company. They are also half a world away. I’ve never met them, and probably never will.

A terrorist bombing blast killed 69 and injured 341 people in Lahore, Pakistan this past Easter Sunday. Many were Christian children at play with their Muslim neighbors at a popular park, being looked after by their families. Thankfully, our team is nowhere near Lahore. I was naive enough to believe that they wouldn’t be touched — they were too far away. How could they be?

Our team wasn’t directly impacted. But of course they were affected. Of course there are aftershocks. They are afraid to walk to work. They are afraid to take their kids to the park. It’s surreal to read a first-hand account of how they feel.

We live in an interconnected world, and we have a mutual obligation to create peace on earth. I’d like it very much if our team could sleep better at night.
