Change My View — Redesigned

Change My View (CMV) is a forum on Reddit where you can say, “Change my view about ____.” It could be about something simple like, “Bananas are the most convenient fruit,” or something serious such as, “Gun control is bad.” Afterwords, people will try to persuade you of your position, typically going back-and-forth with you to discuss different perspectives.

CMV is such a breath of fresh air compared to the fights and pointless debates we see on the internet. To see people change their views on race or religion in schools — even just a tiny bit — is fascinating. And CMV tends to have conversations you would never expect, especially on some more lighthearted topics.

Although Reddit has tried to court new users with their redesign, it’s still foreign to many. But some of the content there could be interesting to people who don’t use Reddit. I personally found the conversations on Change My View really compelling. I wanted to redesign and curate the content to, hopefully, bring these conversations to a larger audience.

Redesigned from the top-down

When designing around the content in Change My View, our goals were the following:

  • Curate content based on relevance, uniqueness, and quality. No need to dig through Reddit to find the gems
  • Make the content discoverable
  • Simplify the experience. No special terminology or know-how needed

You can check out the result here, at changemyview.co

If this speaks to you, sign up for our newsletter. You’ll get curated, quality content about conversations you won’t see elsewhere.

And of course, if you have any feedback, we’d love to hear from you. Send us a note at hello@changemyview.co and we’ll get back to you.
