Just Trying To Make It……

This morning I got out of bed before the rest of the clan, made coffee, grabbed my favorite mug and tiptoed out the back door to read my bible and have some prayer time. The weather was beautiful considering it is July in Oklahoma, ( and by mid-day I am going to have to remind myself of my morning prayer time). It was just a beautiful, much needed moment of peace until a fly landed on my mug. Yes, A fly landed on my favorite mug, with warm coffee still in it. I shooed (is that a word?) the fly away and IT FELL IN MY COFFEE! It just plopped into my coffee like it was tired or drunk or both. So the picture of the mug in this post has a fly floating around in it but of course you can’t see it because who would ever post that?

But what if we did? What if I posted the picture of the ice cream bar that Essie just ate for breakfast (true story) or a picture of Tiger’s toilet or me screaming at the kids trying to get them to church? My sister (who lives 8 blocks from the beach, yes I am bitter) sent me a text a few weeks ago that she was walking along the beach and a guy said “ma’am you dropped something” she realized that it was a pair of underwear that had fallen out of her bag and she almost tackled him before he picked it up. Now that is a real story and yes she gave me permission to share. When I was pregnant with my youngest I was 40 and determined to look pretty. I bought a beautiful pink flowy maternity skirt and I loved it. I wore it to Walmart one day and from the look on the faces of others I assumed I was glowing and the pink skirt was a hit. When I got home I realized the pink skirt, hiked up in the back, tucked in my underwear was more of a hit. This seems to be a theme in our family because when I was young and single I went on a date and a knee-high pantyhose was stuck to the back of my sweater (do they still make those?). It fell to the floor by my chair and the waiter was determined to reunite it with it’s owner (like it was a lost child). I denied it was mine but that waiter was determined! I can laugh about it now but that was a horrifying moment.

The reality is….most of us are just trying to make it. Some days we hit it out of the park….some days not so much….. but we should at least be able to laugh while we are doing it AND we should give each other a break. Now excuse me while I go get another mug and make more coffee.
