PEF, NYSNA, CWA, Carpenters, Plumbers & Steamfitters, and Teamsters lend support

ALBANY, N.Y. (Aug. 30, 2017) — — Albany Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan announced today that her campaign has received endorsements from multiple labor unions ahead of Labor Day weekend.

The New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF), the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA), Communication Workers of America Local 1118 (CWA), Carpenters Local 291, Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 7, and Teamsters Local 294 announced their support of Mayor Sheehan’s re-election campaign.

The six unions represent city, county, state, and private sector workers who live in the capital city. Combined, they have more than 10,000 members and retirees who are registered voters in Albany.

“I am honored to receive these endorsements from our brothers and sisters in labor. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated workforce in the Capital City. I look forward to continuing to work together to build a sustainable and vibrant city that we can all be proud of,” said Mayor Sheehan.

“The Communication Workers of America Local 1118 (CWA) appreciate the support that Mayor Sheehan has given our members. Mayor Sheehan’s leadership helped solidify a contract between the CWA and the City of Albany for its Public Service and Traffic Safety Officers, a contract that was left open for over five years by the previous administration,” said John Van Denburgh, executive vice president, Communication Workers of America Local 1118 (CWA).

“The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters is proud to endorse Kathy Sheehan for Mayor of the City of Albany. She has proven her dedication to the working men and women of the Community. It is her leadership that has made this City the model for others to follow. Thanks to Mayor Sheehan and her Administration, the City of Albany is now the strongest supporter of Apprentice Training Programs in the State. Her vision will benefit the hard working men and women of this Community for years to come.”

“The New York State Public Employees Federation proudly supports Mayor Kathy Sheehan for re-election in the 2017 Albany Mayoral race. Mayor Sheehan’s record of accomplishment and willingness to work with labor persuaded our members that she is the best candidate to represent Albany and our members who live and work in the city,” said Michael Blue, Region 8 coordinator, New York State Public Employees Federation (PEF).

“NYSNA, New York’s largest nurses’ union, is proud to endorse Kathy Sheehan for re-election as the Mayor of Albany. Kathy has truly been a fighter for the people of Albany — battling to grow jobs, to fund projects for the middle class and to improve the city schools. As the daughter of a nurse, Kathy has also made healthcare a top priority making sure those who need the most help, get the help they need,” said Marva Wade, RN, political action committee chair, New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA).
