Loved it — excellent article, and as a father to a teenage boy, I am often intrigued by what he is reading, what engages him, and how much the topics intrigue him, or whether it might be too superficial. Thanks so much for sharing your journey through YA. One tiny remark, the diary entry for Franz Kafka is 100 years out. I thought at first you were bing ironic, bringing an age old affliction to the present day, but now realise that it’s a typo: Franz Kafka has a diary entry on January 20, 2015, that simply reads, “The end of writing. When will it take me up again?” Nine days later: “Again tried to write, virtually useless.” The allegory is still very relevant though.
