How I used the Pomodoro to get the most done
“The bad news is time flies, the good news is you’re the pilot” — Michael Altshuler
Let me start by telling you a bitter truth, whether you admit it or not. we all love to procrastinate. It is the most favorite thing for most of us. We love to take things for granted, complete tasks at the end time and try to waste our time in useless and fun activities as much as we can. At least I am like this. I love to procrastinate and at the same time, I want to leave this bad habit.

So what can we do to make this devil fade away? Well for my goodness, I was doing an online course and I got the chance to get my hands on a technique that could eventually help me to get rid of my bad habit of procrastinating. It is not a new technique and many of you may already know what it is. Yes, its the POMODORO technique I am talking about. YAYYY you guessed it right :-D ( like it was the most difficult thing to do :p ).
So what is a Pomodoro?
Pomodoro is a technique that was introduced to reduce procrastination by dividing your work into small breaks so that you don’t get overloaded and also get your work done.

This picture explains perfectly what Pomodoro is. Hope that you got the point otherwise google it. Simple :)
So after finding out about this technique, it was the time to test it, and I decided that I will use this technique to write a blog post about showing kindness. If you want to check out, it is on my profile. ( Hmm promotion ). Anyways, so I decided on the task to be done was to write the blog.
But before setting up the timer, I thought it would be good to look up for some exclusive apps for Pomodoro, and I am happy I made the decision because I found out 2 of the best apps for my use; Forest and Pomicro. And for the activity, I used the FOREST. It is a pretty cool app, where you set the timer to your liking, the preset is 25 mins. After setting the time, you start doing work and app will do its work by growing up virtual forests. If you complete your task in time without closing the app, your forest will grow up otherwise you will fail and your forest will die.
It is a cool concept, and it also reduces your phone dependency. After you complete your task, you will be rewarded with coins that can be used to buy new virtual plants. It is a cool and useful app and I would recommend you to use it.

Okay, so coming back to the topic. After deciding on the task and getting the app, I set up the timer at 25 mins and started writing the blog, and I was seriously astonished when I passed the 25 mins mark without a single distraction. Yes, I did concentrate entirely on my blog writing and didn’t notice when 25 mins passed. Then, I took a short 5 mins to break, again started with the blog and reached another deadline. It occurred 3 times, and I have completed my blog with 15 mins break in between, and I completely focused on writing the blog during this whole time. It was astonishing that I haven’t used this technique before, but now I was so comfortable working like this that I thought I don’t have to worry about managing time at all.
It was a new experience for me. I kept track of my time and used the breaks in between to rest that actually helped me focus on finishing my task well. I can surely say that if I had started writing the blog without Pomodoro, I could have ended up getting distracted and maybe have taken more time than expected. But, by using the Pomodoro, I managed to do my work pretty easily and in a managed way. It made me happy and there was a sense of accomplishment when I completed the task at hand.
So I made a pact with myself that I will definitely make it a habit to use this technique while doing my work as it can help me get rid of procrastination habits. It may be difficult but difficult roads lead to success, and I am hopeful that one day I will be able to perform my everyday tasks using the Pomodoro technique.
Taking the first step is what separates winners from losers. I have taken the first step towards my betterment by using the Pomodoro, what about you?

Work smart, not hard. Use Pomodoro.
