Introducing… Me

I have never been at a happier place in my life. I have finally chosen to be free. This isn’t going to be some type of cumbiya blog about self-discovery or anything like that, but it is going to be more of a conversation than most blogs… I hope.

Hello,

My name is Shelby Dorn.

I help run my families business which is a dog boarding and daycare center called Delta Dog Camp. We have been open since 2009 and I came on staff full time in very early 2012. We offer training at our facility and I get dozens of questions a day regarding: pet services, obedience training, potty training, crate training, what collars to use and not to use, what vaccinations do I need in order to board, and the list goes on and on.

That is why I am starting this daily blog. While there are going to be days where I blog, there are going to be more days where I will be posting Podcasts or videos instead, depending on the subject matter and how much time I have.

The whole purpose of this journey and conversation with you the reader is because I absolutely love being able to help people with their dogs and just in life in general. My hope is to leave the world a better place when I leave it, even if it is just the world of Oakley, California, or the world of my family.

A Little About Me As A Person

I am married to a wonderful woman named Alyssa, and we have a small home in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have a wonderful fur-baby named Rina who I have been experimenting training methods on since she was 10 weeks old, she’s now 5, and we will hopefully be adding to our family soon with another fur-baby or a not so furry one. I have been working with dogs since I can remember for the last 25 years. My dad used to train protection dogs when I was a kid and has been training drug, explosive, and arson detection dogs for the last 15 years or more. I have been absorbing his training methods since I was a kid and have practiced training dogs since 2012 for the purposes of basic obedience for the most part.

My intention is to give you free information that will allow you and your pet to have a more enjoyable time together on walks, and a more agreeable time in the home.

Daily Dog Tip:

Even though this is more of an introduction piece, I would like to leave you with one little tip that I plan on elaborating more on in the future.

ATTENTION. The way to get the best results from dog training and consistent behavior in the long run is to get your dogs attention. If you do not have your dogs attention, then it is just like when my wife is trying to tell me about her day, but I am absorbed in my email or Instagram. If your dog is off in the weeds or the clouds mentally, you have to grab the attention away from the distraction in order to achieve the behavior you are asking for.
