So I have a laptop now. It is one with a 17" screen so the keyboard is close to a standard keyboard. I learned on an IBM Selectric III typewriter in high school.

I was at 70 wpm, tops then. After a year in a receptionist type job, I was fast. A placement agency tested me when I was 22. I was (computer keyboard) clocked at 98 wpm. Shocked me. LOL. 125 wpm 10 key.

At 33 I was going back to work. Had been home 4 years. Placement agency timed me at 93 wpm.

I have been home 18 years. I doubt I type as fast now, though faster than many.

The important thing for me is that I can keep up with my writing in my head. Back when I wrote by hand, in high school and college, my thoughts would leap ahead and my writing couldn’t keep up. I could do it, but it was frustrating.

I don’t test myself now. There is no reason to. I can say that typing fast helps make the writing easier for me.
