Unsung Heroes V: Nick Matzukis

Nick Matzukis was the drummer of the highly successful new-wave South African band, The Helicopters. He is pictured on the left-hand side at the back of the picture wearing sunglasses.
Nick was a student of and then a lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand, specifically within the law faculty.
In 1995 Nick Matzukis started his first institution of higher learning, Allenby Campus. It eventually mushroomed to 8 campuses around the country.
Nick eventually became the CEO of Damelin one of South Africa’s oldest private providers of higher education.
Emanating from the institutions Nick has created have emerged a number of significant creatives and music influencers: Dan Patlansky, Melissa Conradie, RJ Benjamin, Robin Kohl, Proverb and DJ Cleo.
Nick went on to form Academy of Sound Engineering of which there are now two campuses, one in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town. He has spun the success of this institution and formed ATV (Academy of Television and Screen Arts).
Over the years Nick has served or chaired various boards.
