Lee Kang-san, why do you spend a dreamlike year?
Sangmyung University recently visited various regions in provincial regions or spent winter in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province. This year has brought about changes. He planned a field training in Japan. According to Ko Seung-jin, the coach of Sangmyung University who has been in charge of the team since its inception, he had a field training in China.
All the freshmen have accompanied them to the overseas training camp, which is being held for the first time in a long time. One of them is Lee Kang-san (183 centimeters tall, G).
Lee Kang-san said, “I’m sorry that I couldn’t join you because I got hurt from the second day of the off-season training in Japan. I’m trying to play the role that I received from the coach as much as possible, but it didn’t work out well, so I’m trying to learn as much as possible,” adding, “I was a player who scored until high school, but when I came to college, the coach asked me for bad things such as defense and rebound, so I’m trying to do it as much as possible.”
Lee Kang-san used to record 20–10 degrees in his third year of Gunsan High School, but in his first year, he focused more on defense based on his many activities.
When Lee Kang-san mentioned this, he said, “I want to support my older brothers like I did in my first year of high school.”
Lee Kang-san, who is now tasting college basketball, said, “College is different from high school. There is a lot to learn from both the coach and the older members in basketball. I learned that basketball is part of it, not the whole thing,” adding, “My dream was to enter Sangmyung University since I was a freshman. Since middle school, Kwon Soon-woo is a role model, so I wanted to go to Sangmyung University where Soon-woo is.”
Kwon Soon-woo is also from Gunsan High School like Lee Kang-san. When Lee Kang-san entered Gunsan High School, Kwon Soon-woo graduated. It is only one year that I can spend time with Kwon Soon-woo at Sangmyung University. Lee Kang-san also took advice from Kwon Soon-woo during training.
“It’s been a year of my dreams. I want to learn as much as I can from Soon-woo and learn as much as I can through the year,” Lee said. “When Soon-woo broke through, I dribbled one by one, two, but when my offense didn’t work, I had to pull him out quickly.” I have a bad habit of trying to force him to the end. When Soon-woo dribbled one, two, he told me that if help defense comes, I have a chance to pull him out. There were a lot of mistakes in defense, so I also taught him that.”
“I want to be a player who is always sincere and hard, and then good at it,” said Lee Kang-san, who is now at the starting line of his college career. “I will be a 130 percent player when others are 100 percent short of skills. That’s why I will be the next Kwon Soon-woo.”
