Purple Interlude
Son of Baldwin

This reminds me off the episode of House of Cards when Freddy tells Frank that he’s leaving the White House to work with his family, help them build their floristry business. Freddy, my favorite character on the show acted wonderfully by Reginald Cathey, used to own the BBQ joint where Frank was a regular. Frank repeatedly calls Freddy a friend, but when Freddy tells him he’s leaving, Frank says he’s sorry to see him go, but that if he must, he must. Then dude says, and this is where my man Freddy got real on ‘em real quick, “before you leave, it would be nice for you to come up to cook a a BBQ rib dinner.” So, in celebration and farewell of Freddy moving on, he could come cook and serve they white, privileged asses some ribs like old times. I was sooooooo glad Freddy snapped on his ass. All this to say, sadness, hurt, choices, preferences, autonomy, family, trust, and devotion… none of these enter white folk mind because they don’t see us a complex, emotive humans. They still see us as tools. As service animals. As their entertainment. It’s bullshit. You definitely aren’t alone in these feelings about that interview. Thanks, as always, for sharing your thoughts.
