The criminalization of black girls in the classroom

Yes. So much yes. Thank you for this. As an educator and community worker I see these themes in my work both inside and outside the classroom. One of the things that frustrated (and frustrates) me so is the lack of attention from our communities and institutions about these hard realities and very real challenges that set a tone for the futures of so many of our black girls… all the while, we see conference after conference, article after article, about our endangered black boys. And I hate that we’re made to feel as if supporting and working to positively affect change for our black youth is a zero sum game.
