On the one hand, I want to stick to a one-clap policy — anything I like gets a clap. Just the one. I don’t have time to meditate on how many claps to give a piece and dole them out dutifully — just a clap and I’m on my way, thank you very much. Seems reasonable to me.
On the other hand, I’m terrified that writers I like might take offense. “Why only one clap? Clearly you didn’t think it was as good as the guy that gave it 20 claps! What do I need to do to earn more claps from you?”. I end up not clapping at all, because I don’t want my single clap to cause offense.
I appreciate what Medium are trying to do (I think). But it’s prodding me ever closer to an anxious existential crisis.
