Yes! This!

When anyone queries my going out alone at night, my walking home alone at night, my audacity to venture anywhere in the world at any time without a big burly “protector” at my side, I make a very pointed comment to the effect of: “Well, the most dangerous part of going out is coming home. Statistically, my husband is more likely to rape and murder me than anyone else in the world,”. It’s a bit of a conversation killer, but I flatter myself to think at least it gives them food for thought.

Luckily, I live in Australia, where the issue of guns in the home isn’t quite as prominent as it is in the States. A big part of the reason I so vehemently oppose any relaxation of our gun control laws (yes, there are politicians and voters here who would elect to relax our world-renowned gun control laws) is their influence and presence in instances of domestic violence. More guns typically = more women pistol whipped and shot.

Thank you for fighting the good fight, and sharing this piece. Good on you! ;)
