She sat there sipping her cappacino, the wind blowing gently around her and the rumble of strangers voices buzzed. Would he come? That was the question. She had stepped out on a leap of faith. She had worked with Randall for 2 years now. He was competent, funny, engaging and the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. He was always busy, a dilligent worker with so much responsibility, every time she talked to him she felt as if she were intruding but he was always kind and perhaps…interested. She stared into his eyes when he talked, completely undone, forgetting where she was or what she was doing. Whenever he was around, nothing else mattered. It had gone on for months. The rumor mill said he was single, had broken up with his girlfriend a couple of years ago and no one had known him to date anyone special. She had agonized for days about how to get his attention and get him to ask her out. It seemed impossible. Finally she decided to play “helpless” you know, that role modern women loathe, but she would do anything to spend time with him. She came in with a difficult report. It really was difficult and she flattered him, asked tough questions and then she did it! “I have to get these out by Friday would you have anytime to go over them with me? Whenever you have time, lunch or after work would be fine with me.” after the words escaped she felt faint. He smiled and stared at her for a moment (what on earth was he thinking) He cleared his voice and reached for a pen just behind her right shoulder, she took a deep breath and he smelled wonderful. “ Absolutely.”
