The pause metaphor is very misleading as well as dangerous. You seem to be grossly underestimating possible harms from Lupron (like damage to bone development) and missing how blocking vital aspects of normal human development can function to exacerbate confusion and lead to poor decision making. It seems clearly best for a child to be able to live happily in his or her body without lifelong medical interventions and possible sterility, yet blockers may instead move youths who might have gone on to such outcomes in the opposite direction. Blockers also interfere with mechanisms that come with important experiences and information that is profoundly pertinent to the very identity they’re supposed to be exploring and making major, lifelong decisions about. From what I gather, moreover, rates of suicidal ideation / suicide are at their highest as transition itself is occurring, and there is ample reason to be skeptical of the extreme high rates of suicidal ideation reported.
Looking forward to this soon-to-be released book.
