“Don’t go through life, grow through life.” — Eric Butterworth

Such a stimulating quote that perfectly sums up life, wouldn’t you agree?

Life is not a narrow road, instead it is a winding road of bumps and obstacles that we must face. Too often, many have strayed away from the path and abandoned hope of ever reaching the end of the road.

Hope is indeed fleeting when the road is filled of twists and curves.

We grow through life, not go through it.

The art of self growth begins with you.

To achieve self growth, we must:

First: Awareness and Acceptance

At a very tender age, it has been instilled within us that we should learn from our mistakes. And the same lesson that’s been taught to us before should still be applied today.

According to Abraham Maslow, “Growth needs do not stem from a lack of something, but rather from a desire to grow as a person. Once these growth needs have been reasonably satisfied, one may be able to reach the highest level called self-actualization.”

When we accept our own flaws and imperfections, now then do we learn to fix them and better ourselves and our lives.

Second: Self-Love

Loving ourselves might just be the hardest thing to do yet if we must fulfill the art of self-growth then we should come to terms with loving ourselves. Often times, we look at ourselves in the mirror and frown at our reflections, despising the way that we look. Similar to the road to self-growth, the road to self-love is another difficult road to walk. It is an never-ending road; it never stops.

During this time, you isolate yourself. Take a break from social media Separate yourself from large crowds. Take care of yourself and your mental health. Self care is very important. You will ache from loneliness, then you heal and finally, you accept yourself. Some days, it will be difficult and that’s okay. As long as you keep trying, that alone is a victory.

Final: Self Growth

Congratulations. You’ve reached the final stage.

Self Growth.

You now have the desire to push yourself to surpass your limitations. The motivation and drive to improve yourself constantly. And the ability to try harder when you’ve failed. Self growth is an ongoing process. The more you push yourself, the farther you go.

The hope that was once fleeting, is now at your fingertips.
