Reiki Can Change Your Entire Life
Welcome! My name is Sheri Sutherland, I own Tranquility Soul Spa, I love Reiki, and I’m not ashamed to say it.
It seems like Reiki is everywhere nowadays, and everyone is curious about what it is, and what it’s used for. The question I get asked most is…What is Reiki?
I usually tell them that the quick answer is “Reiki is energy work,” but that there’s a longer answer if they want me to tell them more. About half the time, I get “yes, please!” in response.
Reiki is an easy, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that anyone of any age can use, including children, pregnant women and the elderly. Animals love Reiki — my cat has become a massive pest since I started practicing on her, and wants a session every five minutes now! Even plants benefit from Reiki — my brown thumbs have gone green. Basically, if it’s a living being, Reiki will be beneficial.
Reiki has a positive affect on all forms of physical, mental and spiritual illness.
The source of Reiki energy is both within and outside ourselves. The energy comes from a part of ourselves that is connected to an infinite supply of healing energy — the universe, the creator, or whatever your personal belief system involves.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it’s not a religion, or even mildly religious in nature. Practitioners and recipients are encouraged, and even inspired, to make their own decisions concerning the nature of their religious practices. Many people find that experiencing Reiki puts them more in touch with their spirituality. It opens the pathways.
The second question is usually then, what happens during a session? Most people assume it’s like a massage, but it’s a totally different experience to that, although some of the after effects can be similar.
During an in person Reiki treatment the client remains fully clothed , and is usually laying on a massage table or in a bed, but treatments can also be given while the client is seated or even standing. The practitioner places their hands on or near the clients body in a series of positions related to the Chakra points, and each position is held for a few minutes. The whole treatment usually lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, but can be shorter or longer depending on what the two parties agree upon.
Reiki can also be channeled to anyone or anything around the world with simple meditation techniques. Certain basic information about the person, animal or ‘event’ that the Reiki is to be directed to is all that is needed. Reiki can even be sent forward and backwards in time! Remember all those times you thought a “guardian angel” must have been protecting you? It might have been a Reiki practitioner! Maybe someone in your future is going to be a Reiki practitioner and is going to decide you don’t need to go through that thing! Trippy, right? Distance Healing is just as effective as hands-on treatments.
Everyone experiences Reiki differently, however, it’s usually feelings of deep relaxation, peace and well-being. Sometimes people report a tingling or seeing colors behind their eyes. Some people even drift off to sleep. A Reiki treatment encourages us to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear and negative feelings. At the end of the treatment, you should feel refreshed, with a more positive, balanced outlook.
Most of the time a treatment will leave you relaxed and uplifted, however, sometimes when a person’s energy vibration increases and their body relaxes, toxins that have been stored in places like the lymph system will go whoosh and be released into the blood stream, to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. If this happens, you may experience a headache, stomach ache or feel weak. It is always a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest after a treatment.
Reiki is going mainstream!
It’s becoming fairly well known as a way to shorten recovery times significantly, and more and more hospitals and doctors are bringing in Reiki practitioners to work with their patients. It can also reduce or eliminate the side effects of regular medical treatments, as well as improving healing rates and reducing hospital stay lengths. It works incredibly well for the negative effects of chemotherapy, post operative pain and depression.
Reiki doesn’t replace seeing a doctor, psychologist, or other health care professional. If you have a medical or psychological condition, it is extremely important that you seek out professional medical advice prior to working with a Reiki practitioner.
Reiki works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care, and will improve the results, but it won’t heal anything on its own.
Discovering Reiki has definitely been one of the best things in my life, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share my gift with the world!
