It took me decades to stop smiling about the unspeakable horrors. When you’ve been through the wars, sometimes you get enured to horror in order to survive. Then you have to teach yourself to feel it again and experience it again so you can actually process it. And then the smile fades and the tears come like a flood of biblical proportion.
