Oh my gosh, I would have LOVED to have been your sister and worn all those petticoats! I think I only had one when I was little. You can’t even find them now. I also loved my tutu and would have lived in it if I could. I felt like a fairy in it. I must have spent the nickels because I don’t have them anymore but I have no idea what I bought.
We had a lot of kids in our neighborhood, as well! My big sister was the ringleader and our favorite game was to reenact “The Wizard of Oz.”
My sister had blond hair and blue eyes and she always got to be Dorothy.
I was tiny and skinny and either was the scarecrow or Toto.
Our friend, Linda lived down the street and one day she and my sister had a showdown when Linda demanded that she be Dorothy or she was going home. My sister refused to let her and she left with her little brother, Jimmy, in tow.
I don’t think it affected the game that much but it became a mantra in our house anytime one of us thought we were being treated unfairly. My parents would say, “If I can’t be Dorothy, I’m going home!.”
